CONGRATULATIONS TO 7TH GRADER, ARUL SELVAKUMAR FOR HIS SUCCESS IN 2016 STATE SCIENCE FAIR

We are very pleased to announce that 7th grader, Arul Selvakumar competed in 2016 State Science Fair this past Saturday, April 2, 2016 and won following awards:
  • National Association of Biology Teachers Award
  • UGA Department of Microbiology Junior Award
  • Best in Microbiology Junior Award
  • First Honors Awards.

Congratulations to Arul for this wonderful results.

GREAT NEWS: 1st Place as a Team in 2016 State MathCounts

We are very happy to announce that for the first time in our school’s history, our Math Olympiad Team won 1st place as a team in State MathCounts competition. After so many 1st place awards as a team, this is the latest achievement from our wonderful Math Olympiad Team. 

Two of our students placed in the Top 10, Holden Watson came 2nd and Charlie Furniss came 5th individually.

The rules for this competition beyond state level are that the Top 4 individuals form Georgia will head on to Nationals with the First placed Team Coach. Therefore, our wonderful Math Olympiad Head Coach Mrs. Sema Duzyol and 7th grader, Holden Watson are heading to Nationals! The national competition will be held in Washington DC on May 7 – 10 2016. All of their expenses are paid by the MathCounts Organization.

We wish Team Georgia and Holden the best at the National level. Way to go!

Below are the other achievements of our incredibly successful Math Olympiad Team this school year:

1st Place as a Team in 2016 Woodstock High School Math Tournament at the JV level.
2015 Best Novice Team at the Varsity Level of the 2015 Lassiter High School Math Tournament.

1st Place as a Team in the 2015 Luella High School Math Tournament,

1st Place as a Team in Both the Accelerated Division and the Middle School Division at the 2015 War Eagle Math Competition.

1st Place as a Team at the Junior Varsity Level of the 2015 Rockdale Math Competition

1st Place as a Team at the 6th grade level of the 2015 Eagle Cup Math Competition

2nd Place at the Junior Varsity Level of the 2015 North Fulton High School Math Competitio

Spanish Class Field Trip Was Lots of Fun!

Students had a lot of fun during both shows (Latin America Festival & Soul of Spain) today. They enjoyed an introspective journey to the Hispanic nations of the Caribbean, Central and South America as well as Spain. Students not only watched these wonderful dances, but they also participated actively by coming up the stage and follow the steps of the wonderful dancers.

Elementary Science Olympiad Team Won 1st Place as a Team

Elementary Science Olympiad Won 1st Place in Regionals and Advanced to State Competition!
Our Elementary Science Olympiad students competed in their first competition of the year this past Saturday. Our students took home many individual awards and the team placed 1st overall! We will be advancing to the State ESO Competition in May. Congratulations to our students and their coaches on a job well done! Ms. P and Ms. Minor are SO proud!

SUCCESS IN SAVANNAH FOR MODEL UN

On March 4th and 5th, the FSAPS Model UN team travelled to Savannah to take part in the 18th Annual Coastal Georgia Middle School Model United Nations Conference where they put in a strong showing among the many schools and students in attendance.

The FSAPS Model UN team was awarded the Distinguished Delegate trophy for their performance in the competition. In addition, several students received individual awards for the outstanding representation of their respective countries.
Sophie Richardson was named Distinguished Delegate for her representation of New Zealand in the Security Council where Kian Nijaf was given Honorable Mention representing Senegal.

African Union members Saad Maan (Republic of Congo) and Sanjeev Uppaluri (Somalia) were awarded as well, with both receiving Honorable Mention.

The Human Rights Council saw three students win awards with Krishna Patel (Estonia) being named Outstanding Delegate. Sidharth Thatipamula (Somalia) named Distinguished Delegate while Sparsh Kudrimoti (Saudi Arabia) and Maggie Sutton (Japan) received Honorable Mention.

In the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, several students won honors: Arham Alam was named Distinguished Delegate representing Bahrain and Radeen Dixon, Nadine Haddad, and Prajwal Vedula were given Honorable Mention awards for their representation of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Saudi Arabia, respectfully.

Finally, FSAPS had great success in the General Assembly with three teams receiving recognition. Peyton Leonard and Armana Patel (Azerbaijan) as well as Mario Machado and Anthony Miramontes (Panama) were given Honorable Mention. Neharika Marupudi and Meghana Raj (Saudi Arabia) won Distinguished Delegation.

The 15 individual awards are the most the team has ever brought home. Congratulations to the entire team for the hard work they put into preparing and competing in the conference!

MS. LARSON CHOSEN AS STAR TEACHER

Congratulations to 7th grade Life Science Teacher Gabrielle Larson for being selected as STAR Teacher by former FSA student Siri Choragudi. Siri, a senior at Chattahoochee High School, graduated from FSA Charter Middle School in 2012. She earned the distinction of STAR Student by having the highest SAT score on a single test among her Chattahoochee classmates. Each STAR Student may select a STAR Teacher for having made the “most significant contribution to the STAR Student’s scholastic development.” Siri was in Ms. Larson’s 9th Grade Honors Biology class at Chattahoochee before Ms. Larson retired from Fulton County Schools and began teaching part-time at FSA. It was former FSA students like Siri that sparked her interest in teaching at FSA.

We congratulate of the above students for their hard work and achievements. Once again, our team won 1st place as a team and four of our students (Holden Watson, Charlie Furniss, Vishaal Ram, and Tyler Hecht) advanced to the state level.
Each member of the qualifying team above will compete at the individual level and also will compete as a team at the state level. We are very proud of our students, they did a spectacular job last Friday!!
Congratulations also go to Holden for his first place individual award.

STATE Mathcounts Competition is on March 21st at GaTech.
The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is the only competition program of its kind, with live, in-person events in all 50 states, as well as U.S. territories and schools worldwide through the U.S. Department of Defense and State Department. With competitions taking place in over 500 local chapters.
The Competition Series is ideal for students who have a talent and passion for math who need to be challenged. Students will engage in exciting, “bee-style” contests in which they will compete against and alongside other bright, motivated students. At the local, state and national level, students win hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships and prizes every year.
